I need to change my server's resolution to 1280x1024@60Hz for the KVM switch lcd screen to display my server's local console screen
(**the KVM switch (NLS lcd monitor) is connected through cable to 4 servers and is not registering the correct resolution, so the screen is not coming up on the lcd screen)
I am pretty sure this is b/c of the resolution settings on my UNIX servers.
So I am pretty sure I am going to have to use fbconfig/ffbconfig or something like that but I am not sure of the exact syntax, any help would be tremendously appreciated.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!
Who has manually changed the resolution of the UNIX box (Solaris).?
Depending on the hardware, it should be something like
fbconfig -res 1280x1024x60
or the same with m64config, afbconfig
It may require a reboot, btw

Why do so many people have abysmal English skills?
From error ridden syntax to atrocious sentence structure, and nonexistent punctuation, it's just horrible to try and read some of it! I was always just a B and C student, but I did try and garner a working knowledge and reasonable command of my native language. Everyone is going to make a typo here and there, but what we see on these boards is inexcusable. And you have no idea how much this will haunt you when seeking employment, considering the person doing the hiring will have you pegged immediately as a stock boy or cashier instead of Manager trainee!
Why do so many people have abysmal English skills?
Because the American educational system is focused on passing the tests, not in actually thinking or learning.
Reply:O.K.
Reply:Since IM and sites like Yahoo came along, the need to write and type fast has increased. Therefore, we express faster than we think. I can be really bad sometimes. I've known some Very smart people on here who are the same. In sociolinguistics this is well understood (that expression is dependent on the context it's in.)
Reply:I AGREE!
Reply:Well, I'm with you on this one. Frankly, I've only been on this board about a month, and I am appalled at the lack of basic English that I see here. In fact, I try to avoid answering questions that contain egregious errors, but that's probably over 50% of all questions.
It's really a shame. I agree with you that these people (whether they are adults, teens, or children) had better get it together and learn basic English because it really will haunt them in their professional lives. In my profession, making even one typo in a report is such bad form that I could lose a client over it. And it would be embarrassing as hell.
I also believe it shows an enormous lack of respect for the readers of the forum. And this problem is everywhere on the Internets. It seems to be particularly egregious here, but I've seen it on all kinds of websites. My pet peeve is "loose" weight instead of "lose" weight. That one makes my head explode every time.
Great comments and question, by the way.
Reply:you got a point but spelling sucks. take spanish for instance, its a language that has very few spelling mistakes since you have one letter for one sound. the only problem is "h"'s
Reply:I realize that this isn't really a question. As for poor skills in the English language, there are too many here to mention. Just remember that you are on a site where there are lots of children and young adolescents doing the asking. they have yet to finish their education. In that I find hope, the questions that are just too poor grammatically, I don't even bother with an answer. Sometimes you just have to know when to not be upset over things. Different levels and characters of people is what makes the world go around.

Does anyone know how to make a Windows 2000 boot disk that opens a command prompt instead of loading Windows?
Here's the situation: I have a command-line utility that I need to use to upgrade the BIOS on my motherboard. It needs to run from a bootable floppy diskette. An emergency boot disk won't work. Making a recovery disk doesn't work either. The closest I've gotten thus far...
1) Format the floppy.
2) Copy the following hidden system files from C:\ to A:\
ntldr
NTDETECT.COM
boot.ini
The trouble seems to be in the boot.ini file, which is of course pointing to the Windows installation on the hard drive. I'm guessing I'll need an additional file at least (the command line processor) and the proper syntax in boot.ini to get it working.
Does anyone know how to make a Windows 2000 boot disk that opens a command prompt instead of loading Windows?
you cant make a simple boot disk for windows 2000 or xp because the hard drive format is NTFS, but to just flash your bios you don't need to access your hard drive so you can use any windows 98 boot disk
you should be able to download a boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com/
id recommend the driver free boot disk for bios flashing
create the boot disk floppy and then add your flash program and bios image to the floppy and reboot, make sure you change the boot order in your bios to check the floppy first.
alternately you may find a boot CD somewhere online or you can create a bootable CD from some CD writing programs and add your flash program to that.
but id recommend you stick with the driver free boot floppy from http://www.bootdisk.com/
good luck
hope this helps

TI-84 programming error?
Hi. I made a program for the Ti-84 so it can find the discriminant for me (I know, I'm too lazy). It solves for me, however, It always says Syntax Error and then shows the answer. Can anyone fix this for me? Also, can anyone tell me how to run an archived program without switching it to RAM on the TI-84? Thx.
This is what I wrote for my Program....

Bid'ah - The Clarification?
A Bid'ah is that innovation which came into practice after the blessed age of the Prophet (salall laahu alaihi wasallam) be it worldly or religious. Some people say that to celebrate the Meelad, Esaale Sawaab for the deceased, making Fateha after the Janazah Salaah, etc. to be Bidah and in some cases as Haraam. They say these were not practised in the time of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam).We will now list a few things, which were not during the blessed age of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) but were innovated afterwards and made part and parcel of religion:
a. Construction of Madressas,
b. Dividing the Quran into thirty parts,
c. Marking the expressions on the Holy Quran, viz. Fatha, Kasra, Dhamma (Zabbar, Zer, Pesh),
d. Printing the Holy Book and other religious books in the press,
e. The compilation of I'lm-e-Hadith and Fiqh,
f. To put down the Holy verses of the Quran in paper form, etc.
All the above-mentioned things are Bidahs, which were not in the blessed age of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) but are considered religious. Those who say that Moulood and Fateha are Bidahs because those religious affairs which were innovated after the blessed age of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) should have a look at the above list and show us which of these two things are not included in the religion and which was there in the blessed age?
The Hadith: "Whosoever invents a new thing in our religion is rejected" means that whoever innovates a new belief or whoever innovates a new action which is in contradiction with the Kitaab and Sunnah will be rejected.
The books "Shaami" and "Mirqaat" say that Bid'ah is of five categories, viz. Ja'iz, Waajib, Mustahab, Makruh and Haraam.
We will have to omit many things which are known to be part and parcel of religion but were innovated after the blessed age of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) such as the Masaa'ils of Fiqh, the four Madhabs, viz. Hanafi, Shafi, Maliki, Hanbali; the Tariqas, viz. Nashbandiyya, Qaderiyya, Chistiyya, Shuhruwardiyya, Alwiyya, etc.; the denominations of the Sufiyya-Ikraam; the categorisation of the six Kalimahs, Imaan-e-Mujmal, Imaan-e-Mufassal; the division of the Holy Quran into 30 parts; the compilation of the knowledge of Hadith and the categorisation of Hadiths, i.e. Sahih, Da'if, Hassan, Mu'addal, etc.; the construction of madressa and arrangement of their syllabuses; and to set a course for achieving the degree of Aalim and Qari and to present certificates on the completion of the course to the respective students, etc. will all be Haraam if we accept a statement that all Bid'ahs are Haraam and there is nothing like Bid'ah-e-Hasana. In fact, there is no act of Shari'ah or Tariqah, which is void of Bid'ah. Then how much will you try to avoid such a Haraam (as you say) when it is surrounding your whole religious activity. So, therefore, all Bid'ahs are not Haraam but only those, which contradict with the Kitaab and Sunnah.
Bid'ah Amali (innovated action) is classified in two:-
Bid'ah-e-Hasana (praiseworthy innovation) is that action which does not contradict with the Holy Quran and the Sunnah and was brought into practice after the time of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) for example, to construct religious institutions, to print the Holy Quran in the press, to hold gatherings of Meelad, to eat nice food and to put on attractive clothes, etc. Bid'ah-e-Hasana is not only permissible (Ja'iz) but at times it can be appreciable (Mustahab) and even essential (Waajib).
Bid'ah-e-Sai'iyya (offensive innovation) is that action which was not in practice in the blessed age of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and which contradicts with the Holy Quran and the Sunnah, for example to say the Khutba of Eid or Jum'a in a language other than Arabic, etc. Bid'ah-e-Sai'iyya can be Makruh Tanzhi or Makruh Tahrimi or even Haraam.
Bid'ah-e-Hasana is further divided into three categories:-
Bid'ah Ja'iz (Permissable): is that action which the Shari'ah prohibited and which is done without expecting any reward or punishment for it. For example, partaking in a variety of delicious dishes or wearing nice and attractive clothing, etc.
Bid'ah Mustahab (appreciable): is that act which is done with an anticipation for earning reward, for example to celebrate the Meelad-un-Nabi (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) or to pray Fateha for the souls of deceased Muslims, etc. If is is done with the intention of gaining rewards, he will gain reward for it, and if one does not do it, he will not be reprimanded for it.
Bid'ah Waajib (essential): is that new action which has not been prohibited in the Shari'ah but to omit it will lead to critical complications in the religion. For example, to put the expressions (I'raab) in the Holy Quran such as Fatha, Kasra and Dhumma, to constuct madressas for teaching the Holy Quran and Hadith and to learn and teach the knowledge of nahv (Arabic syntax), etc. are all Bid'ah Wajib.
Offensive Bid'ah is categorised in two:-
Bid'ah Makruh (abominable): is that innovation the performing of which will lead to the annihilation of a Sunnah. If a Ghaiyr Mu'akkidah Sunnah is annihilated then it is Makruh Tanzihi and if a Mu'akkidah Sunnah is annihilated then it is Makruh Tahrimi. For example, to pray the Eid Khutba in a language other than Arabic, etc. is Bid'ah Makruh Tahrimi.
Bid'ah Haraam (prohibited): is that innovation which will lead to the annihilation of a Waajib. For example, the introductions of beliefs which are in contradiction with the Kitab and Sunnah, such as Qadriyya who believe, that man has got all the power to do whatever he wishes, etc.
The first volume of "Ashi'atul Lam'aat" (Babul I'tisaam) says about Bid'ah Hasana and Sai'iyya under the Hadith: "Every Bid'ah is a delusion (misleading)" that any Bidah which is in accordance with the principles, the canons of Islamic Law and the Sunnah and has been deduced analogically from the Quran or Sunnah (through Qiyas) is Bid'ah-e-Hasana and that which is in contrasts to the above definition is Bid'ah-e-Sai'iyya.
A Hadith in "Miskhat" under Babul-I'lm says: "He who sets a good precedent in Islam, there is reward for him for this (act of goodness) and a reward for him also who acts according to it subsequently, without any deduction from their rewards and he who sets in Islam an evil precedent there is upon him the burden of that, and the burden of him also who acts upon it subsequently, without any deduction from their burdens." From this Hadith we see that to introduce a nice way in Islam which is in accordance with the Holy Quran and Sunnah will induce rewards and to do vice versa will provoke punishment.
In the preface of the book, "Shaami", under Faza'il Imam A'zam Abu Hanifa (alaihir rahmah), it is written: "The scholars say these Ahadith are the canons of Islam and that is whoever introduces a bad way in Islam, he will get the burden of the sins of all those who act upon it and whoever introduces a nice way he will get reward of all those who act upon it till the Day of Judgement".
Bid'ah - The Clarification?
i did not finish it all, don't want to be disrespectful, but was is your Q.
oh OK, then yes you are right but some things people do are bidah, like some people when a member of there family dies they do weird stuff,like scream and pull their hair...etc.
they should stop.
edit, marhama i did not say crying is a bidah did you read my answer were does it say that crying is bidah, don't put word that are not there. what i meant is those people that go crazy and start pulling their hair , i did not mention crying . everyone cries and has feeling .
Reply:Red Tullip,
I don't think cry and scream for death of family members is always bid'ah.
It can be bid'ah if they think screaming and pulling hairs can be Ibadah.
But screaming because hysteric coz losing people that they love is not bid'ah.
I did cry a lot when my best friend passed away, coz extremely sad. how could it be bid'ah?
(((red.tullip)))
upss sorry
I just want to give stressing to what bidah means for me,
when someone doin something that Prophet Muhmmad didn't ever do it, but (s)he said what they do is Ibada, then that's bid'ah, so I still in my opinion, that what you said (screaming and pulling hair) can be bid'ah and can be not bid'ah

Reply:There is a world of difference between constructing a school and reciting fatiha for the dead. By the way 'madrassa'...there were no schools during the time of the prophet (pbuh)?????....come on.
You really didn't define bidah correctly in your first sentence anyhow. To say that it is simply something that came into practice after the age of the prophet (pbuh) is wrong. Bidah in religion is something that people have added to the religion. Printing a book is not adding something to the religion. Compiling the works of scholars is not adding something to the religion. Building a school, which DID exist during the time of the prophet (pbuh) is not adding something to the religion. Don't have to say anything about putting Quran on paper because that was done during the time of the prophet (pbuh). Using accent marks in the Quran is not adding something or changing any part of the religion. The accent marks are purely for proper pronunciation.
For the ignorant who claim other peoples ignorance, get educated.

Using accent marks in the Quran is not adding something or changing any part of the religion. The accent marks are purely for proper pronunciation.

How do I load databases using WAMP MySQL?
How do I load a database onto mySQL? I'm using WAMP, and I've placed the database named 'world.sql' in c:\
When I type 'use world' in the mysql prompt, it yields 'Unknown database 'world'.
Am I using wrong syntax or do I need additional parameters in order to load the database?
How do I load databases using WAMP MySQL?
1.) you need to know how to import the database. Try this: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/m...
2.)If the importing of the database is successful , try typing this one in the command line.. SHOW DATABASES.. if you see the name of the database you have imported then you can now use it.

Context Free Language Question?
Hello, I'm new to context free languages and having trouble converting from a mathematical description of a language into the CFG syntax. For example, if I'm asked to find (a^n)(b^n) for n greater or equal to zero, that is a language that has the same number as a's as b's that begins with "a", i know that I can write the context language as:
S--%26gt;aSb | e
How do I handle a situation where I have something like:
(a^m)(c^p)(d^q) such that m = p + q.
Anyone have an idea??
Thanks
Context Free Language Question?
Here's an example and a hint:
aaaaaaaacccddddd
= aaaaa ( aaaccc ) ddddd
You can easily generate the middle part with a rule. After that generate the outer part with another rule.
MORE DETAILS
One rule T must generate a number of a's followed by an equal number of 'c's : a^p c^p. The number can be 0, so includes the empty string, e.
Using T make another (main) rule S to generate a number of a's followed by T followed by an equal number of d's: a^q T d^q. The number can be 0, so includes the result of generating T.
ac is generated: T generates one of each: ac, then S generates 0 of extra a and d.
ad is generated: T generates 0 of a and c to get e, then S generates 1 of extra a and d.
Better to represent the language as
a^(p+q) c^p d^q, or as
a^q a^p c^p d^q
to see the required pattern, rather than thinking of m = p+q as a condition to be satisifed by the rules.
T --%26gt; e | a T c
S --%26gt; T | a T d
S--%26gt;aSb | e

Excel: I have a problem transferring data from one updated spreadsheet to another.?
I have one datasheet like this:
Column A | Column B | Column C
Product | Price of Product | Product manufacturer
Companies have then sent us different spreadsheets where the prices have been changed. Basically, I want to transfer these updated prices onto the above spreadsheet without having to enter each one individually - i.e. by linking the two spreadsheets.
Unfortunately, I don't know the syntax in Excel, so simpler answers might be needed!
Thanks
Excel: I have a problem transferring data from one updated spreadsheet to another.?
Your A column have a unique values, right?
Means that if one row has the product "Car4", then this itsm "Car4" is not going to be repeated in the cells below, until its price is updated, right?
If so, then you will need some formulas to do it.
The issue that I need some more info on how do you bring the update sheets into your original sheet.
i will need you to mail me here in Y! Answers to get this done for you
Trust me, no one here can solve it better, if it can be done in Excel, then it is VBAXLMan
Enjoy my profile, I am the VBAXLMan
Reply:You don't need to know the syntax. Excel will write it for you. Open both spreadsheets and in the cell you want linked, type '=' and click on the cell with the information you want in the other spreadsheet, then hit enter.

I am having a problem with an insert statement in Visual Basic 8 connecting to an Access Database.?
Getting syntax error in INSERT TO statement. That is all the information I get. Here is my code. Parameters are set after last statement
Dim Cmd As OleDb.OleDbCommand
Dim Con As OleDb.OleDbConnection
Dim Sql As String = Nothing
Con = New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsof... source=" %26amp; "C:\Documents and Settings\MPAXTON1\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\GunLog\GunLog\TeklogixRetu... %26amp; "")

I think your problem is that you are not concidering the diference between numeric and string
try this
if the column is string have single qutes aroud the item for example
'{0}'
Sql = String.Format("INSERT INTO GunLog(date, sc_num, wh_id, gun, model, send_tek, sendRMA, return_tek, returnRMA, problem, employee, call_tek, tek_assoc, tek_sc)

Speech delay in 5 year old?
my 5 year old boy Max started Pre primary this year and his teacher picked up a delay in his speech ( quite bad) he has met with the speech/language therapist. It was concluded his delay is developmental.
Any ideas, tips, sites, educational tools, activities would be appreciated.
He has trouble making certain sound like " s, v, g, th, c, j, x etc.
and omits the ending sounds to most words. He doesnt complete the whole word.. eg. instead of saying "park" he says "par" etc.
he can make the sounds by themselves but simply doesnt say it.
He also gets confused when trying to construct a sentence. he knows what he wants to say but has trouble putting the words in the right order "syntax"
My 3 year old boy seems to be following suit.
thankyou.
Speech delay in 5 year old?
I am a speech pathologist. Oral motor problems are not the only or main reason for speech delays. You said your child is omitting final consonants, We call that "Final Consonant Deletion" That is a phonological process. What that means is all children usually go through specific patterns of simplifying their speech when they first learn to talk, then they grow out of it. For example, Cluster reduction is when a consonant blend such as in "star" the st is usally reduced and the child just says "tar". I would expect a child to stop using Final Consonant Deletion by the age of 3.
Here are a few handouts to explain it further:

http://www.linguisystems.com/pdf/LinguiS...
The other poster suggested oral motor exercises, these will not help unless your child has oral motor weakness. ask the speech therapist. there is not point in doing things like blowing up a balloon if that is not the cause of the problem. Your speech therapist should have explained this better to you and given you information. Ask her, she can be a resource, if you want to help him at home specifically ask her to send materials to you to work on.
This is a nice website with much information

Reply:Oral Motor skills are the usual cause when articulation is inhibited...
Reply:I know it is hard to see your child struggle. I have 6 six year old who is also developmentally delayed. He struggles on a daily basis in communicating with his brothers and his frustration can be palpable.
Work on blending segments of words. (ex. Br an ch) so he understands how to make these words. Also practice enunciation, by making each sound in a word distinct and clear. Encourage him to look at your mouth to see how the sounds are formed. Mostly, talk with him. The more practice he gets the better he gets. Try to keep these lessons stress free as not to promote anxiety, further feeding his delay. No judgment , no hard expectations. Working in conjunction with a speech therapist is an excellent choice and she can guide you to more methods to use at home. Good Luck God Bless
By the way some exercises can include: drinking from a staw, and(if old enough to be safe) blowing up balloons. If it is a muscle development problem you may notice that blowing a balloon may be difficult for him. These exercises will help with tongue and mouth control and coordination..

Something wrong with my Search Page in ASP.Net?
C#
I made a search page that searches all the brand names in my table and this is my query:
adp = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from tblVitamins2 where Type like %"+TextBox1.Text+"%", conn);
adp.Fill(dt);
When I click the search button, this message appears:
Invalid Syntax near 'Multivitamins'
What do I do?
How do you make your search pages?
One more thing. How do I clear the DataTable so that it won't be filled with past searches?
Something wrong with my Search Page in ASP.Net?
I'm no ASP.NET wizard, but I'm guessing you typed in Multivitamins into your search textbox. I believe your problem is that:
"select * from tblVitamins2 where Type like %" + TextBox1.Text + "%"
should be:
"select * from tblVitamins2 where Type like '%" + TextBox1.Text + "%'"
That is, put a single quote (') before the first % and after the second %.

META Elements
Confused in filling in the syntax:-
%26lt;Meta name="text" content="text" scheme="text" http-equiv="text" /%26gt;
a)Name of what?? My name?? The document name?
b)Content, like what color the webpage is??
c)Scheme, like how wide the webpage is??
d)Http-equiv, what the url of my website??
PLEASE HELP
CONFUSED beginner in HTML help me plz?
a) name: applies to author, description (short summary of the content of the page), keywords (the words people will type in to a search engine), generator (the program you used to write your pages), copyright, robots(to determine whether web crawler to index your page) etc.
b) content: the content to type of name, scheme and http-equiv that you have declared earlier.
Example of use:-
%26lt;meta name="author" content="Patrick T"%26gt;
%26lt;meta name="generator" content="Adobe Dreamweaver CS3"%26gt;
%26lt;meta name="descriptions" content="Mine's the Best Answer!"%26gt;
%26lt;meta name="keywords" content="Answers, good, best"%26gt;
c) Scheme can be used when name is used to specify how the value of content should be interpreted. eg. ISBN, date-month-year etc.
Example of use:
%26lt;meta scheme=isbn content="1-351-8947-2"%26gt;
d) http-equiv is used to define additional information to be sent to the browser in the http header. This gives the web site creator additional control over this data.
Example: content-language(defines the language of the page), expires (expiration date of the document), refresh (the interval before the page refresh itself)

The next thing you should know about Meta Elements is that it allows search engine like Yahoo to pick up key words from your web pages so that any browser that searches for item can locate your web site from these keywords.
Reply:Meta tags are used to provide data to search engines (and sometimes validators and other tools) but they aren't absolutely necessary in any page.
The meta tag is used for many different things. The name attribute describes the type of meta tag this is, and the content is the value. For example:
%26lt;meta name = "description" content = "a page about my wiener dog" /%26gt;
provides information to search engines about the contents of your site
Another variation might list keyword suggestions:
%26lt;meta name = "keywords" content = "dog, wiener dog, daschound" /%26gt;
A special form of meta is used to tell search engines how to treat your site:
%26lt;meta name = "robots" content = "index, nofollow" /%26gt;
This will request that search engine robots add your page to the index, but not follow the links on the page.
None of these tricks is guaranteed to have any effect whatever, as they have been widely misused, and the search engines all use their own techniques for determining how pages will be sorted. Most search engines today rely far more on the content of the page than the meta tags to determine how a page will be listed.
The one meta tag I regularly use is this one:
%26lt;meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/xml; charset=utf-8" /%26gt;
This tag informs the browser that I will be using xml markup with the (very common) utf-8 character set. This line is not required for ordinary HTML, but it is required if you want your page to validate to XHTML strict standards. (It's a good idea, and not difficult to do.)
If you're a beginner, you can safely ignore most of the meta tags, They really aren't important until you are worried about search engine optimisation, and I'm not convinced of their utility there. The http-equiv version should be in the standard template you use for building your standards-compliant pages.
I might humbly suggest you have the wrong book. Watch for mine coming out this spring.
Good luck!

Question about Excel Macros and VBA - copy / paste ranges?
So here is what I am trying to accomplish:
I want to create a macro that will take ranges of cells from multiple other workbook/worksheets, copy the entire range of text (this is a variable amount on each sheet, so it needs to pull all data in the worksheet), and then paste into my worksheet. Then, it would delete the last line of the text (as it is subtotals that I do not need), and then copy the next range and append the info to what was pasted from the other sheet.
If I made this sound weird, I want the macro to:
-open up workbook B (I can create the macro for this, so this syntax is not needed)
-copy range that has cells in it (example, if text is in A1:L7, copy that)
-paste info into Workbook A
-delete the last line of info
-Open Workbook C
-Copy range that has data (for this example A1:L10)
-paste info AFTER data from prior copy/paste into Workbook A to append the data.
-so on and so forth for all of the files.
THANK YOU for any leads you can give.
Question about Excel Macros and VBA - copy / paste ranges?
This should do what you need. Feel free to changes to make the code fit your particular sheet. You'll need to list each workbook path %26amp; name in column one of a worksheet. The code will loop through these workbooks, open them %26amp; copy their data.
Sub Macro1()
'starting with A1, put the workbook paths in each cell in the column like
'C:\TEMP\Book1.xls
Dim rngName As Range
ActiveSheet.Name = "NameList"
Range("$A$1"). Activate
Set rngName = ActiveCell
Sheets.Add
ActiveSheet.Name = "TotalData"
Sheets("NameList").Activate
Do Until rngName.Value = ""
Workbooks.Open Filename:=rngName.Value
Range("A1").Select
Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select
Selection.Copy
ThisWorkbook.Activate
Sheets("TotalData").Activate
Range("$A$1").Activate
If Range("$A$1").Value = "" Then
ActiveSheet. Paste
Else
Selection. End(xlDown).Select
ActiveCell. Offset(1, 0).Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
End If
Selection.End (xlDown).Select
ActiveCell. EntireRow.Delete
strname = InStrRev (rngName.Value, "\")
strname = Right (rngName.Value, Len(rngName.Value) - strname)
Workbooks (strname).Close savechanges:=False
Set rngName = rngName.Offset(1, 0)
Sheets("NameList").Activate
Loop
End Sub
Sub Macro1()
'starting with A1, put the workbook paths in each cell in the column like
'C:\TEMP\Book1.xls
Dim rngName As Range
ActiveSheet.Name = "NameList"
Range("$A$1"). Activate
Set rngName = ActiveCell
Sheets.Add
ActiveSheet.Name = "TotalData"
Sheets("NameList").Activate
Do Until rngName.Value = ""
Workbooks.Open Filename:=rngName.Value
Range("A1").Select
Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select
Selection.Copy
ThisWorkbook.Activate
Sheets("TotalData").Activate
Range("$A$1").Activate
If Range("$A$1").Value = "" Then
ActiveSheet. Paste
Else
Selection. End(xlDown).Select
ActiveCell. Offset(1, 0).Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
End If
Selection.End (xlDown).Select
ActiveCell. EntireRow.Delete
strname = InStrRev (rngName.Value, "\")
strname = Right (rngName.Value, Len(rngName.Value) - strname)
Workbooks (strname).Close savechanges:=False
Set rngName = rngName.Offset(1, 0)
Sheets("NameList").Activate
Loop
End Sub
Formatting a useless HDD?
After some fiddling about with the settings (for experimental purposes you understand!) and believing there would always be 'System Restore' to save me, of course it wasn't!
I have tried recovery disk and reinstall from original CD but zilch.
Using a floppy Boot Disk I can get to A:%26gt; but cannot format C from there so I guess the OS must be really unhappy with me.
I am hoping that there is a way to reformat that HDD and ask if any expert here can help me please?
It is possible I have been using the wrong syntax by the way and I have to admit that 13 years ago I was fairly happy with MSDOS, but age is catching up with me now (well into 70s) so maybe I was overconfident. Not maybe, of course I was.
I am seeing the Windows splash screen but quickly this becomes the blue screen with
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_ something
forgotten the rest, sorry, at some stages.
Help!

Formatting a useless HDD?
If your H DD is older than 3 yrs it could have corruptions on it and it will have to be changed for your computer to work properly. It's no use trying to fix it and you will have to see an engineer to have a new HDD which will only cost £50.
Reply:Formatting the hard drive will remove all data stored on your computer,The easiest thing to do is go to www.seagate.com/support, and download their disc wizard.After using it you will be able to reinstall windows,Best of luck.
Reply:When you boot off a floppy disk MS-DOS you can only access hard drives formatted as FAT. Win 2k, XP and beyond use NTFS which a DOS cannot read.
Sounds like you have lost a couple of vital files from the boot sector (root) of your drive. Try booting from your install CD and when presented with the options go for REPAIR.
You may at least end up with a bootable system.
Good luck
Reply:The recovery CD or the install CD should contain the MS-DOS info needed to initiate a Windows XP installation. You don't need (or want) to attempt to boot from the floppy drive. You should not need to format the HDD as this will be taken care of at the reinstall process (probably it uses Norton's Ghost program to restore the factory settings from the CD).
As long as you have the original disks a competent PC tech should be able to sort this easily if you are having problems.
Reply:Hello well sounds like to me you have tried to wip the HDD, and it has gone wrong.
May i sujest that in a time of need you re-wipe you hard drive using DOS ( Disk Operating System) you may ask how to i use or get DOS?
Well first you need to download of another pc BartPE !
http://www.nu2.nu/download.php?sFile=peb...
choose English
"BartPE allows a user to boot Windows XP/Windows Server 2003 from a CD-ROM regardless of the condition of the installed operating systems on the internal hard drive. This means that the user can, for instance, recover data from a failed operating system installation, or reset a lost administrator password."
But what we want is DOS and this is in the program and is easy to find the menus look like windows normal. The Program MUST BE BURNT TO A DISK. And then put intot the pc and hay presto were on.
To the DOS bit:
DOS will look like you have seen it before. You most probs have.]
it will be black and white and say microsoft xp.... and so on.
To wipe your hard drive type "format c:" or "format c:/" (without the inverted speech marks" then it will ask you are you sure say yes the it will delete the whole of your HDD
turn of pc when done and hay finished!
I am asuming that you have XP or Vista so now just insert the disk of windows and you will now re-install windows and be back on track!
if you need a copy of windows let me know and i will get you one... any one you wan't or infact any FILM program!
Email me karl_xxx_xxx@yahoo.co.uk for any more help
and i am only 16!
Reply:Sounds like you have a missing or corrupt boot sector. Of course it is also possible the hard drive is bad. They tend to last about 3-5 years depending on your running conditions. If it is just the Operating system you have a few options here, of course it depends on the version of windows you are using.
1. You can find a regular windows disk and try the repair option, which can be rather difficult and I don't recommend it. This option can be quite intense for normal users, but will occasionally work.
2. You may be using the incorrect syntax for the format like you said, which the link below should be the correct syntax for DOS. It also has some good basic info.
3. Also you could slave the hard drive to another PC and try to format it from windows on the other PC. You would also be able to pull off any files before you format at this point also. If are still having problems with your hard drive after this, most likely it is bad.
I would personally do number 3 but not everyone has a spare PC to throw another hard drive into. If not bring it to someones house that does.
Hope this helps, but if you still cannot get it to work and get a professional to look at it just don't bring it to the geek squad. They cost too much for what you get.

What output is produced by the following code fragment?
What output is produced by the following code fragment?
for (int nbr=200; nbr%26gt;=0; nbr-=1)
if(nbr%4 != 0)
System.out.println(nbr);
Choose one answer.
a. This code prints out nothing because of a syntax error.
b. This code prints out all the integers between 200 and 0, not including 200 or 0.
c. This code prints out all the integers from 200 to 0, inclusive.
d. This code prints out all the multiples of 4 between 199 to 0.
e. This code prints out all the numbers from 199 to 0, inclusive, skipping all multiples of 4.
What output is produced by the following code fragment?
Seeing the System.out.println(nbr) leads me to believe this is Java.
The loop runs once for each value of nbr from 200 down to 0, inclusive, so it runs 201 times.
So nbr starts at 200. We check if the number is divisible by 4 (that is, if the remainder when divided by 4 is zero). If it is not divisible by 4, then we print the number.
Since 200 is divisible by 4, we don't print it. Same for zero. Same for every fourth number.
Let's consider the options.
a.) This code contains no errors, so this is not the answer.
b.) This code does not print, for example, 4, so this is not the answer.
c.) This code does not print 200 or zero, so this is not the answer.
d.) This code does not print out any multiples of 4, so this is not the answer.
e.) This is the one. Note that it does not print zero (since the remainder when divide by 4 is zero).
Hope this helps!

I had declared a variable as global in javascript..how can i access that var in a function.?
here the brief xplanation of my question :
var a; // which is declared as global var
function x()
{
a=10;
}
function y()
{
b=50;
c=a+b; //in this function i have to access variable a,,
}
tell me how can i access which i wrote program in javascript..
i want xplanation with correct syntax..plz reply me.
I had declared a variable as global in javascript..how can i access that var in a function.?
Make the function take a parameter. For example,
var a;
function x(a)
{
a=10;
}
function y(a)
{
b=50;
c=a+b; //in this function i have to access variable a,,
}
//then call the function with the parameter:
function x(a);
function y(a);
If you need more access to global variables, use commas to seperate the parameters, like:
FunctionX(a,b,c,d)
{
a=b=c=d;
}
var a; // which is declared as global var
function x()
{
a=10;
}
function y()
{
b=50;
c=a+b; //in this function i have to access variable a,,

Why are Americans Destroying their Language?
I am not a native speaker of the english language but i have been studying it for almost 20 years now. I have an MA in Applied Translation Studies and I had this question I want to ask to any American who would like to answer:
Why are you destroying your language? I have been browsing through Yahoo Answers these past weeks and I saw things I cannot understand....
I see people stating questions using chat speak. I see people that cannot write common words properly... I see misused syntax and grammar... Is this intentional? Or is it mainly a trend followed by younger Americans that simply do not receive proper education?
I know that most Yahoo users are American so i assume that most of the errors I see are made by them...
Maybe i am wrong...
But it makes me dissapointed to see things like:
imho / btw / idk / whats going onn? / i nd 2 spk 2 u / c u l8r /
I can understand the usefulness of chat speak...
But i really hope you dont kill your language in the long run...
Why are Americans Destroying their Language?
It's found just in younger Americans. (And Canadians) This is because most of our (their) time is spent chatting on such things like MSN, My Space, AOL, etc. For whatever reason, these teens feel that they do not need to employ proper grammar when talking to their friends. Hence, expressions such as imho and btw have been invented.
I do understand how imho can save time as "in my humble opinion" is quite a bit longer than the abbreviation.
However, what I do NOT understand is the use of 'u' and 'r' and the like. Really, it takes a second to type out 'you'. It takes a fraction of a second to type of 'u'. Are people who use this type of chatspeak really so busy that they cannot spare a fraction of a second? Really, if you have no time to type out full words, you should not even be on MSN or MySpace.
I am like you. I hope that such a habit does not ruin the English language - as it is really a beautiful language. Chatspeak has spread even into the classrooms where some teachers have received essays with 'u' in them - teenagers are so used to typing 'u' instead of 'you' that they now do it unintentionally!
That is truly sad. I'm a teenager but I still type out words on MSN. I like to be understood. I can't be bothered to read 'wht did u do 2day'
Besides, it really takes longer to type out the short form of words than the actual word itself. It is like lying - your brain first thinks of the proper word (the truth) and then it has to think of the way to make it shorter (the lie).
Reply:It's not a destruction of our language nor is it pure laziness like some people have previously stated. It's rarely used among the older community and more commonly used amongst younger kids. When in a quick conversation online it's simply easier to say ttyl than spelling out Talk To You Later. Why spend extra time spelling something that can be said much quicker? It's not like americans walk around saying "TTYL". It's only used online.
Reply:Definitely part laziness on the chat speak. It may also stem from the speed at which we communicate in things such as instant messaging and chat rooms. I think that may abbreviations may also have developed from things where you have a limited number of characters you can use. For instance, we are all limited to the characters when posting a question.
As for the misspellings and such though, from working with thousands of young people, I think it may be a way of intentionally, but harmlessly, trying to annoy adults. There may be some ignorance involved, but even my intellectually gifted twelve year old uses intentional misspellings. It drives me crazy and she knows that it does. I refuse to communicate with her if she doesn't use proper spelling and grammar to the best of her ability.
So, I think it is definitely a combination of laziness, ignorance, and rebellion.
Reply:why do you care?? its not like people talk like that in the real world.
Reply:Maybe there are some Americans who write that way. But remember that American English is the most beautiful and most tuneful language in the world. That's why all songs are only sung in American English. Have you already noticed that also British singers switch into American English when they record a song?? That's normal because British English is just non tuneful. I adore American English. It's simply the most beautiful language in the world!!!Italian and Latin American Spanish are also very very nice. I speak five languages fluently (German, American English, Latin American Spanish, Italian and Polish). But my favorites are English, Italian and Spanish although German and Polish are my mother tongues.
Reply:yeah...
its just faster to type. we're not butchering it, just creating a shorthand. i can assure you that no American (i live in america) i know writes like that by hand or speaks like that...
Reply:Ahh.. yes, I do agree with you. It's mostly ignorant people doing this (not just teens, I've seen older people follow this stupid "trend" too). It usually dies off once they get involved with groups that are more about specific things rather than gossip and very general, "free-for-all" chats. I'm mostly involved with online gaming and online art groups, and typing that way is really looked down upon and people are really teased for doing it if they join our groups and type that way. So people usually get out of the habit, which is good. I doubt Americans will destroy their language, because there are always people dedicated to preserving it, as well. And don't blame all teenagers! Some of us do like to write in a way that's not too bad. =)
The butchered writing really hurts to look at, though.. I swear to the gods that a little piece of my soul dies every time i see someone type like that.
Reply:Actually I would disagree and say that this is a sign of a healthy language. A language that allows for such colliquialisms while maintaining comprehension is a great thing.
Reply:When you find an answer, other than sheer laziness, let me know.
Reply:KAUSTIKOS,
ONE THING YOU MUST UNDERSTAND IS THAT THESE BOARDS ARE USUALLY VISITED BY TEEAGERS OR YOUNG PEOPLE WAITING TO BECOME TEENS. THEY DO NOT HAVE A COLLEGE EDUCATION YET, AND ARE NOT AWAREOF THE IMPORTANCE OF CORRECT SYNTAX AND SPELLING.
AS SOMEONE FAMOUS ONCE SAID,"FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO."
ephkaristo
Reply:Yes, I am wondering that, too! Most are just too lazy to type out the real form, so they rely on *Internet* slang. You shouldn't do that now, because it makes people NOT want to learn English.
Reply:That is the way most people talk on IM. It is a quick but stupid way to communicate.
Reply:Destroying the English language is a time-honored tradition in the United States. Daniel Webster intentionally modified the way words were pronounced and written in order to separate us from the British, whom he despised.
In the case of chat speak though it's just laziness and doesn't spill over to real life much.
Reply:It is not only Americans who do this. I have a hard time understanding what Australians try to type. And what about British people? Or people from India? It is NOT only a trend in the U. S. A.
And it is NOT only happening in English. Spanish is going through the same stupid trend, for instance.
I HOPE it is intentional. But... I sadly see that the "intentionality" is starting to become a normal thing. "We are not in a classroom". Yeah... they are allowed to be stupid outside a classroom. That's fine!
I am not a native English speaker either...

What a beautiful variety of answers already delivered. The most intriguing is that ALL of them are somehow right. Furthermore, it is not the case with Americans only, almost all the nations in the world TEND to impoverish and simplify the language, which most probably the price of Globalization, less education and amazing life speed...

Context Free Grammar Help?
Hello. I find CFGs interesting, however I am having an extremely difficult time visualizing how to construct them. For example, if I am told (a^m)(b^n)(c^p)(d^q) such that m + n = p + q is the definition for valid strings in the language, how can I convert that to the CFG syntax? I can see from the m+n = p+q condition that the resulting string is going to be something that can be divided equally (ie. even) but I can't see how that would help me. Also, it is possible to choose "nice" strings that are in this language, say aaabbbcccddd because then I can break the string into two rules like:
X--%26gt; aXb | e
Y--%26gt; cYd | e
Then I assume you just add a start a start line like:
S--%26gt; X | Y | e
This is the solution I get from the speically chosen string. I doubt that my CFG above is correct for any string in the language. Can anyone provide some guidance and tips? Thank You so much.

Here's an example:
aaabbbbbccdddddd
Group it:
aaa [ bbb ( bbcc ) ddd ] ddd
Use one rule T1 to generate the middle part: a number of b's followed by same number of c's. Using T1, make another rule T2 to add an equal number of b's and d's at the ends:
T2 --%26gt; T1 | b T1 d
Make a rule S1 to add equal number of a's and d's.
This works when there are more b's than c's. Do something similar when there are more c's than b's to get S2.
Finally, S is S1 or S2.
Reply:I don't think that's even possible with a context free grammar....

Do you agree with Miller's analysis of Bush's speech?I'm just curious.?
Mark Crispin Miller in¨ The Bush Dislexicon¨ observed that all of Bush's fatally stupid remarks and grammatical errors usually occur when he's faking it; faking interest in the matter at hand or faking a concern that he doesn't feel.On the other hand,when he talks about punishing people and getting back at them,his speech patterns change and his syntax and grammar are almost those of someone who actually finished school.
¨I know how difficult it is to put food in your families¨
(Lack of any real concern;he's faking it)
¨We are grateful to the brave Austrian troops...¨
(lack of interest;he couldn't care less what country they're from)
In his famous speech in N.O. ,after Katrine,his discourse makes grammatical sense and he gets his act together when he threatens lawbreakers,including desperate people trying to get into abandoned tents for bottled water that government agencies are failing to distribute!
Has anybody noticed this too? Do you think M.C. Miller is correct?
Do you agree with Miller's analysis of Bush's speech?I'm just curious.?
Well it makes perfect sense. Bush is no statesman and apparently he's no public speaker either. I wish I could find this comforting, but the fact is, Bush inspires not confidence, but fear.
The things Bush is bad at, or incapable of doing, is growing by the hour. Pretty soon even the most brain dead voter in this nation will wonder why he or she voted for such "Low Leadership".
Reply:Who made Miller the authority? What are his credentials? Since you did not provide any sources, all I am able to surmise is this Miller is another Bush Basher. I don't believe his theories for one minute. I am certain however, the presidency is a very difficult and stressful position. He has the lives of everyone in this nation to consider.
I would not be surprised to learn that he gets little sleep and works hard. I believe his good deeds take precedence over the fact htat he gets a little nervous making speeches. He may feel that the time it take to make these speeches he could be accomplishing more by doing than talking.
Reply:no I don't really agree with that
Reply:No! Miller is as whacked as Moore, he has no credibility, the only ones that listen to him are those conspiracy nuts...

I'm very rusty with CFGs, but thought I'd try to refresh my memory by helping you on this. I might have something, but I've forgotten how to properly validate a CFG, so you might have to check my work. Also, I don't normally spell out the answer completely, but it appears to me you've actually thought about this for a while, which is good.
The way I thought about it is, if you add either 'a' or 'b', you must add either 'c' or 'd' to the string. Furthermore, there is the constraint that all a's must come before all b's, all b's before c's, and all c's before d's.
Since the symmetry is down the middle (a's and b's on one side, c's and d's on the other), I decided to work with a grammar that expanded from the middle, similar to what you have above.
Once I decided on this form, I realized that you'll basically be adding different pairs of letters to generate your string, but the above constraints dictate when the productions change (I'll explain below).
So I started with a production
S --%26gt; A
A --%26gt; aAd | e
This gives os all strings (a^x)(d^x), all valid strings (n = p = 0).
You might initially think that we could have
A --%26gt; aAd | aAc | bAd | bAc | e
to cover the other strings like ac, bd, and bc, but if you think about it a bit more, this gives you broken strings like abaacdcc.
So what happens when we insert either b or c (by insert, I mean insert into the center of the string)? If we insert b, we can no longer insert a, and we must insert a c or d. If we insert c, we can no longer insert d, and we must insert a or b. If we insert both b and c, we can no longer insert a or d. This led me to new productions
A --%26gt; aAd | aBc | bCd | bDc | e
Using a similar train of thought for productions B, C, and D, you get
B --%26gt; aBc | bDc | e
C --%26gt; bCd | bDc | e
D --%26gt; bDc | e
Each of these productions, I believe, ensures that we always have to add either a or b whenever we add c or d, and they uphold the order constraint of the strings.
One other thing: the above grammar isn't simplified, so you might want to clean it up a bit, if you've determined that it looks okay.
If you have any questions on this, feel free to email. I don't profess to be very good at these things, but I'll try to help.
X--%26gt; aXb | e

I typed "copy f:\filename.dbf to c:\filename.xls at the command prompt but the file does not copy. What is the correct syntax for this function?
I need to copy a foxpro 6 dbf file in excel 2003.?
Open Excel, then choose to open a file. Change "Files of Type" to "All Files". Then browse for your DBF file and Excel will do its best to open it.
You can't just change the extension of a file and have it convert formats automatically.
Reply:U load visual foxpro 6.0 and give the following commands
use customer %26amp;%26amp;customer is the dbf name and u are opening it.
copy to customer.xls type xls %26amp;%26amp;this command will copy customer.dbf as customer.xls and go to excel and open this file.
alternately u can load excel and click on file and open. and select dbf in the files of type
then select customer.dbf and do what ever formatting u want and then save as customer.xls.
any clarrification contact me at lakshmiteja@rediffmail.com

Reply:hi...
Solution 1. The syntax of copy command in command prompt is
Copy f:\filename.dbf c:\filename.dbf. so, just ignore the "to" in your syntax. Then this command won't give u the solution. 'ecause if u want to copy the foxPRO 6 file into Excel file u just do the following.
1. Open the Excel application.
2. Select the file menu -%26gt; then Open -%26gt;in the filename area type your database file path and file name. fox eg. F:\filename.dbf then click open.
3. Now u have opened the file. If u want to save the file in Exel format, select the file menu -%26gt; select save -%26gt; it will ask the filename and file type, select Microsoft Excel workbook or work sheet.
4. i hope this is the right way to copy the .dbf file into .xls file.
reply me.
Reply:you'd have better luck opening it in access.
Access is a database like foxpro and Excel is a spreadsheet or go into Excel and choose open file and choose file type for dbf.

alternately u can load excel and click on file and open. and select dbf in the files of type
then select customer.dbf and do what ever formatting u want and then save as customer.xls.

Excel VB how to save file including date in a filename?
In an Excel Macro, I want to save a file as a report and append the filename with the current date.
Right now the code below stores the file as
Pipeline Report.xls
I would like it to be stored as:
Pipeline Report %26lt;date%26gt;.xls
This is the code I currently have in there:
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
"C:\Pipeline Report.xls", _ ....
Could you perhaps tell me how to use a date function in the syntax for the file name assignment?
Thanks for your help.
Excel VB how to save file including date in a filename?
Use format$ function eg
format$(now(),"YYYY-MM-DD")
Reply:Here's the command I use:
NewFileName = "My_File_" %26amp; Replace (Str (Format(Now, "yyyymmddhhmmss")), " ", "")
I have the date formatted down to hours, minutes and seconds. I do this so that I can save the file as often as I want and get a new file name every time.
Hope this helps!

Reply:sFilename="blah\blah" %26amp; now
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= sFilename
Look up the VBA date-time constants to figure out how to get the exact format you want.

Mam,i cant access a friendster in my computer.. what should i do?.?
someone told me that its just like to: START, RUN, type "CMD" (no qoutes,) and hit enter..type "ren C:\. bla bla bla bla bla bla,, but i cant follow this instruction.. and the computer said "the syntax of command is incorrect" CAN I MAKE A COPY OF A CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS,, PLSSS.. HELP ME... PLSS...
Mam,i cant access a friendster in my computer.. what should i do?.?
It sounds like the program runs under Windows pseudo-DOS, or the command prompt, as they like to call it. If you're in Vista, that option doesn't exist. Ren is short for "rename", so I can't imagine what your original instructions were on about.
But - the problem at hand - if your friend is in the computer, best to take off the access screws at the back and let them out.

New english language?
Standard English, as it was written before the arrival of the text phone and chatroom etc, used to have a grammatical syntax that was almost the unbendable law of writing. Now with messages such as
thx 4 th cfee
C U later
etc etc
I just wondered if anyone believes the English language of this style will be adopted as legitimate and that dictionaries (authoritative dictionaries such as the Oxford English (dont know what the authoritative USA dictionary is)) will
adopt this style of English quite soon.
In other words
d'ya thnk wrds lk ths ll B incorporated and standardised too
perhaps with a grammatical structure thats fitting?
New english language?
Hell NO.
Not if I have anything to do with it. I'm a one woman explosion of fiery bitterness.
In all seriousness, the english language is beautiful and beloved to me. I love every aspect of it; it is my life (I am a writer). It pains me righto my very soul to see it butchered by braindead teenagers and their damn SMS speak (Don't place me as an old fart, I'm 18).
I hope with all of my heart that this mockery of the English Language will NEVER be legitimised,
Reply:I will fight to see that it does NOT.
Reply:I doubt cell-phone shorthand English will be adopted, however, I honestly believe l33t (in its most basic form, that is, a looser word and sentence structure where words like "automagically" and sentences like "He is the roxxorz" are both considered valid) would be incorporated.

I think you're missing the double quote and semi-colon at the end of the query.
$insert = "INSERT INTO tablename (username, password) VALUES ('".$_POST['username']."', '".$_POST['pass']."')";
Reply:You need to post the whole line and not just a snippet.
Reply:i don't see anything wrong. can you post the full line/block of code?
however, try this:
VALUES ('" . $_POST['username'] . "', '" . $_POST['pass'] . "')"
dont miss the double quote at the end and give a space before and after the dots.

How can I setup a cron job on a Windows 2000 server?
I keep getting an error message when I try to use this code to Run the program within the scheduler:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORER.EXE http://www.yahoo.com"
Error msg says that my syntax is incorrect. Any help?
How can I setup a cron job on a Windows 2000 server?
Just type:
http://www.yahoo.com
The system will know to run your web browser to open the page.
Cron jobs don't exist in Windows, you have Scheduled Tasks but they're not as flexible.

I need SERIOUS help on this HTML?
Okay something's not working right
I using this syntax here:-
1. %26lt;img src="text" alt="text"/%26gt;
2. I fill it in
%26lt;img src=c:\pic.bmp alt="My Dog"/%26gt;
and all I see is the image, I see not writing. I don't see my dog in the pic. Help!!!
I need SERIOUS help on this HTML?
Please put mouse curosor on the picture, then you see the "My dog" text.
The content of the alt attribute will siplay when you placed the mouse over on Image.
Reply:I think you would seperate them, for ex.
%26lt;img src="picture.jpg" alt="how are you"%26gt;%26lt;p%26gt;this is my dog
and...
make sure your dog picture is in the same folder as the html file is in.
Reply:you need to wrap quotes around the src attribute. like so:
%26lt;img src="C:\Pic.bmp" alt="My Dog" /%26gt;
Some other attributes worth mention for image tags: style="border: none 0px;" works to remove the border around images, especially if they are links.
Also, BMP is not supported on every system, I would convert my images to jpeg.
Plus, using a absolute path for images is not recommended. Put the image in the same folder as the html file, and refer to it like this: src="mydog.jpg" instead of src="c:\mydog.jpg"

Reply:remove the / at the end
Reply:If you want some text to appear when you hover the mouse over the image, you put the text in the title attribute, not the alt attribute. The alt attribute should contain text that would be helpful to people who would not be able to see the picture, e.g. a blind person using an audioor braille browser, or somone just using a text browser.
As for the rest, I agree with David D's answers to your question with the exception to point 5, i.e. switching to HTML from XHTML. There is an expert divide over which is better, and I don't find the points presented in the link provided very convincing and somewhat misleading, especially since the author of the site gets it wrong explaining well-formedness and validity. The examples he provides trying to prove that documents that aren't well formed can be validated, all do the opposite and prove him wrong!!!
There are other more convincing and accurate articles on the web about why use HTML over XHTML, they generally are to do with the content type i.e. how text/html and application/xhtml+xml are handled differently and how it can confuse some developers.
Equally, there are some new arguments about how XHTML-2 is not backwards compatible, and HTML-5 is. That's not really true because HTML-5 is also dropping some HTML 4.01 tags without a deprecation stage. Also, the same group is working on an XHTML-5. All major web browsers are backing the X/HTML-5 (they are actually leading the charge). So XHTML 1.0 is future proof just as much as html 4.01.
Apart from that David's answers to your question are spot on.
Reply:(1) 4) Alt text is an alternative, to be displayed INSTEAD of the image if the image can't be displayed, not as well as the image. "My Dog" probably doesn't qualify as a good alternative. http://htmlhelp.com/feature/art3.htm

We decided to add a counter to the loop to count the records. What is the appropriate syntax to maintain
a counter?
A. ADD 1 TO count
B. ADD count to 1
C. MOVE 1 to count
OR
D. ADD 1 to count GIVING new_count

whenever you not sure about how many times you want your loopto iterate use while loop later do*
i agree with above post but can be done also as
count=0;
while(record!=empty)

count++

well i think B n C are more relavant..yet feel its not whether you do postincrement or preincrement..its use of correct loop

IN VB
dim counter as int32=1 (adjust int32 for size)
Start loop
counter+=1 (this come last in your statement)
End loop
Reply:A loop condition is a test that determines whether the statements within the body of the loop will be executed at least once. If they are exectuted then, the condition also determines whether they will be executed once again.
The process is regulated by a loop control variable (counter). Upon each iteration, the inner statements are executed—and the loop control variable is incremented or decremented.
There are various types of loops, i.e., Do Until, Do While, and For Loops. The loop control condition can be located at either the top or the bottom of the loop. If it is located at the bottom, the body of the loop is guaranteed to be processed at least once.
Below are three examples of loops. The loop control variable is the "count" variable.

Struct timeval continued?
First I need to clarify some things that were pointed out. Yes this is C code and the reason why I was declaring
struct timeval queue[QSIZE]
outside the main function is because other functions need access to it. I tried to use malloc() inside the main function as it was suggested but now I'm getting a "syntax error before token '=' "on this line:
queue = (struct timeval *) malloc(QSIZE * sizeof(struct timeval));
Do I really need to use malloc() to allocate memory. Can the C compiler figure it out since I'm telling it that is an array of type timeval struct?Thanks in advance.
Struct timeval continued?
you don't need malloc - your declaration already allocated enough memory to store QSIZE elements.
Alternatively, you could declare it as
struct timeval *queue;
then you would need to do malloc() yourself.

Can I open another program from perl??
When I use the function "open" (let's say) C:\program files\itunes\itunes Perl doesn't takes it as a syntax error, but doesn't open the program either. What am I doing wrong??
Can I open another program from perl??
The “open” command is used for opening a file for reading and writing, as opposed to executing it as you are attempting to do.
You should be able to achieve what you’re after with system() or exec(). system() will wait for itunes to finish before carrying on with your program, so I would imagine exec() is what you’re after:
exec('C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe') or die "Could not exec iTunes.exe: $!";
Best wishes,
Dave Cardwell.

Reply:What are you trying to do - open a file to read or execute a program?
itunes.exe is a program in the directory you mentioned.
So instead of opening it as a file to read, you need to execute it as a program like this:
system("C:\\program files\\itunes\\itunes.exe");
(You need to escape the backslashes in a string so that's why there are double slashes)
