I don't want to choose which one to learn but hoping learning one can expand to the other...is it possible or they are extremely different like c++ v.s Java?
Does mysql and oracle syntax similar?
They are similar, but there are enough differences that you couldn't directly all statements written for one and apply them to the other. MySQL is smaller and easier to install, once you learn the basics of one of them, then it is fairly easy to pick up another. Also PostgreSQL is another open-source DB like MySQL, and its feature set is more complete like oracle it supports stored procedures, triggers, etc. It also claims compliance to the SQL 92 language standard.
Reply:Yes, I suggest downloading the different GUI tools that you can get with MySQL. That will help you learn the SQL syntax, 99.9% of which will translate to Oracle (and even MS SQL and Access), at least conceptually, if not literally.
