How to get Eclipse CDT to work, with all the instant syntax error checking just like the Java version?

Maybe I'm not as tech savy as a comp. sci. major should be, but how does one get the c++ developer tool version of Eclipse to work with all the wonderful on-the-fly code corrections?

I like the Java version of Eclipse, because I can instantly look up a class's methods just by placing a dot next to the instance and scrolling through the list! It might not be as fun for the hardcore, I can remember large amounts of info, tech crowd but it's great for me since it saves me time.

I've been trying unsuccessfully to figure out the same thing for a long time now - I suspect it's not possible, but I would love someone to prove me wrong!
